John began working in every department, gradually becoming familiar with the inner workings of the automotive business. In 1996, his grandson, James Morris Bass III, also joined the family business. After earning his degree, Jimmy chose to follow in their footsteps. Together, the three quickly realized they needed more space to accommodate the growing business. This led them to relocate to their current dealership location at 4032 W. Houston Harte Expressway in San Angelo, TX.
Mr. Bass took immense pride in his business, community, and, above all, his employees. He fostered a culture within his “Bass bunch” that prioritized the customer as the core focus and key to the business’s success. Mr. Bass passed away at the age of 97, just shy of the dealership’s 50th anniversary. The values and dedication he established at the start of his automotive journey continue to thrive at Jim Bass Cars and Trucks today, which include Mazda, & Nissan franchises
In 2023, Jim Bass Cars and Trucks proudly welcomed a fourth generation to the dealership as James Morris Bass IV joined the family business after completing his education at Texas A&M University. Today, the dealership stands as one of the largest complete dealerships in West Texas, offering new Ford and used car sales, service, parts, body shop, accessories, glass repair, and rentals.
