For more than 65 years, Jim Bass Cars & Trucks has proudly served the people of West Texas with honesty, integrity, and a commitment to treating every customer like family.
Our story began in April 1961 when James Morris Bass turned his years of experience with Ford Motor Company into a vision of owning his own dealership. Alongside partner Lee Jarmon, he opened Lee-Jarmon Ford in downtown San Angelo. As the business grew, Mr. Bass purchased his partner’s interest and relocated the dealership to Sherwood Way, setting the stage for what would become one of the largest and most respected automotive dealerships in West Texas.
The dealership has always been a true family business. During its second chapter, Mr. Bass’s son, John Bass, joined the company, learning every aspect of the dealership and helping continue the customer-first philosophy established by his father. In 1996, the third generation, James Morris Bass III, joined the family business after completing his college education. Together, the three generations recognized the need for additional space and relocated the dealership to its current home at 4032 W. Houston Harte Expressway in San Angelo, where Jim Bass Cars & Trucks continues to serve customers today.
Mr. Bass believed that people were the foundation of every successful business. He took tremendous pride in his employees, his customers, and the community he loved. That philosophy became known as the “Bass Bunch” – a culture built on honesty, respect, teamwork, and exceptional customer service. Although Mr. Bass passed away just before the dealership’s 50th anniversary, his vision and values continue to guide everything we do today.
Today, the Bass family legacy continues into its fourth generation. James Morris Bass IV joined the dealership in 2023, following the same path of learning every department from the ground up, just as his father and grandfather did before him. In June 2026, Adyson Bass Font joined the company, marking another proud milestone in the family’s commitment to serving West Texas for generations to come.
Jim Bass Cars & Trucks has grown into one of the largest full-service automotive dealerships in West Texas. We proudly offer new Ford, Nissan, and Mazda vehicles, along with an extensive selection of quality pre-owned vehicles. Our customers also enjoy the convenience of a complete automotive experience, including certified service, genuine parts, collision repair, glass replacement, accessories, and rental vehicles – all in one location.
Giving back has always been an important part of the Jim Bass tradition. We are proud to support organizations that strengthen and enrich the communities we serve, including the West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind, Texas Council of Scouting, Wreaths Across America, Terry Mikeska Foundation, Volunteer Services Council, San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo, Runnels County Livestock Show, Tom Green County Livestock Show, Eldorado Gaming Association, Concho Valley Community Action Agency, Crockett County Livestock Show, Glasscock Livestock Show, National Prayer Breakfast, and the Pan-American Golf Association Scholarship Program, along with many other local charities, schools, civic organizations, and community events throughout West Texas.
Beyond supporting these organizations, the Bass Bunch remains dedicated to educating, training, mentoring, and employing the future leaders of West Texas – continuing the tradition of investing not only in our customers but also in our communities.
